Discovering Demographics and Psychographics

I am currently having trouble trying to find the demographics and the psychographics of my target market (mid level, top level, and, ceo executives). I wanted to know is there any information that you could possibly give me or point me in the correct direction? -- Chris Momon, The BOSS Group

Having a clear and understandable profile of your best customers is a valuable influencer of selling results. Knowing your customers helps you take the right actions, rather than just educated guesses. Getting started is easier than you think ...

Get started by determining where your best customers spend most of their time. Once you have discovered this, take action to get connected with them. This can be done by ether sponsoring, getting involved, or creating content for these communities.

If you already have a sizable customer base, you can send that list away for profiling. The database management part of my Hitt Publishing Direct can run a profile, so can any large list management company like InfoUSA or Melissa Data. You can get additional information appended to your data.

Before you go through the trouble, you need to determine what information you want and why. The "why" is most important because it is instructive to your approach. Data is not worth anything without action, appending costs money, so it's better to focus on the details you need for results.

Profiling your customers can tell you what characteristics are common. This traits are used to match up likely customers, geographic selects can help you narrow down to specific territories of interest. What are your marketing objectives? That will also influence other matching you may do.
